Ready-to-eat canned
Beans
!
Ndengu
We are piloting and stress-testing a business model around processing, canning and distribution of beans in a commercial kitchen setup primarily targeting low income urban/peri-urban residents.
Our goal is to offer affordable canned beans to underserved communities and help in addressing related impact on household energy use and resulting impact on climate.
Our Proposition
We offer affordable ready-to-eat beans and aim to alleviate the inconveniencing and energy intensive practice of home-cooking beans from the commonly available dry form. We also hope to avert a public health crisis emanating from precooked beans being sold in local kiosks, particularly in low-income urban dwellings.
Impact
It’s a win win!
1 Value Creation
We seek to extract as much value as possible from one of the most important local staple. Historically, there has been limited trading and value addition for common beans within the region. Ndengu seeks to unlock this massive business potential.
2 Bridging the Opportunity Gap
We seek to bridge the opportunity gap through generation of a large number of business and employment opportunities in our expanding network
3 Energy Saving and Climate Inpact
We are making a business case that will reduce household energy vis-à-vis traditional cooking practices. We ultimately hope to help mitigate related climate impact emanating from the associated deforestation during the production of charcoal or firewood.
4 Value for Smallholder farmers
We intend to build an inclusive agricultural value chain that allows for direct linkage between smallholder farmers and our Aggregation and Warehousing operations.
